You Are One Piece In A Grand Puzzle

No matter how many books we want to read,

No matter how many tasks we want to complete,

No matter how many people we want to connect with,

We are limited to only 1 “now”

We have no choice but to be monogamous with “now”

And, at least for each of us, there is a finite amount of “now”

But here’s the cruel joke — we have no clue how much “now” there is for us. No clue!

But, but, but … there are so many people to love! So many things to accomplish and learn!

How can we come to grips with the messy unfinishedness of life?

Sometimes I think, if I just had a better system. New software. Better smart drugs. More discipline. Polyphasic sleep. More money. More employees. I could do, be, learn and love it all.

That my stomach could ingest a much larger fraction of what my eyes covet

It’s a useful illusion.

But every so often, I must rediscover and admit that my stomach has a perimeter that my eyes do not. Damn!

Here is a hack I’ve found useful:

If I can dis-identify with the personal “me” and see myself as one node in a larger organism called humanity that stretches backwards and forwards in time, I can sense a relaxation.

Ahh. I don’t have to do it all.

Ideas of what to do or how to do it are not really “mine” any more than the experiences I have.

They just exist as part of the grand puzzle we each hold pieces to.

I’m honored to be part of the grand puzzle with you.
